Water for The 79th Independence Day Ceremony at IKN

A minimum of 150 liters of clean water per person each day is required for the independence ceremony preparations. The existing capacity remains inadequate, and there is an urgent need for more sources of clean water.

2022 marks the beginning of the relocation of Indonesia's administrative center from Jakarta to the Capital City of Nusantara (IKN). This includes the Presidential Palace, ministry offices, and the development of supporting infrastructure such as housing for ASN (Rusun ASN), schools, hospitals, and shopping centers.

For this ceremony, the Rusun ASN was set up to host ceremony attendees, which included ASN members, ceremony organizers, soldiers, committee members, and additional invited personnel. Making sure to provide an adequate supply of clean water to fullfill these temporary residences is a challenge, at least for the ceremony.

Rusun ASN are required to supply clean water and drinking water, adhering to Rusun ASN standards that ensure tap water is safe for consumption. So far, drinking water and clean water supplies have been acquired by buying water from suppliers through 8,000-liter water tank trucks, which are directly filled into the Rusun ASN ground tank and distributed to each room unit.

But providing water using this method, particularly during events, will be expensive and very ineffective since potable water costs significantly more than clean water. Furthermore, the process of filling 335m3 ground tank with water from truck will require time, leading to concern that it will not be able to keep up with water usage, causing the tank to running empty before its filled.

conserve water, conserve life

To accommodate this requirement, BEN Engineering provided a solution by installing a reverse osmosis (RO) treatment machine with UV purification to produce drinking water that would fill the ground tank GWT-1, processing source water from GWT-2, as illustrated below.

This solution enables Rusun ASN to generate its own drinking water, achieving a 75% efficiency compared to acquiring it from water suppliers. This inhouse RO system will ensure a continuous supply of drinking water.
